Miso consists of majorly 3 ingredients - soybeans, malted rice (called "Kome Koji"), and salt. Popular handmade miso are ready after fermentation from 8 to 12 months. [What does miso taste like?] The paste has a salty and pleasant savoury flavour. The paramount of miso is "umami," the essence of deliciousness that comes from glutamic acid. Another common seasoning "soy sauce" and miso can substitute each other because of the saltiness, but each has its own unique umami. So, they are often used together to produce a more complex and pleasant flavour. [Major Usages of Miso] 1. Miso Soup - Traditional miso soup is made up of miso, broth, and other ingredients.
